Let’s Learn!

Let’s Learn

This page is for people who want to dive a little deeper into the process of glass making. Here I will post detailed notes explaining the step by step process of making and using specific items and techniques. I taught glass blowing and casting for many years and have a true passion for sharing information about the art. Passing on information and knowledge is so important. I try my best not to keep any secrets about my process. Many people have a fear that if they share, people will steal their ideas. But, for me, passing along techniques is what made art evolve into what it is today.

If you want to learn about the research I have made in the field of glass art and science, you can click on the button below labeled ‘The Glass Vertebrae: Discovering Kiln Cast Solutions’. This will lead you to my Master’s Thesis writing and defense lecture.

Below you can see an example of the notes that I will continue to post in this section. I will also share the teaching and visiting artist opportunities that I participate in, including several that I have lined up for 2024. If you are interested in having me as a teacher or visiting artist please contact me here.

THE PUNTY

WHAT IS A PUNTY?

A PUNT HAS TWO MEANINGS. IT MOST COMMONLY REFERS TO THE SOLID ROD USED TO PICK UP GLASS.

HOWEVER, IN THIS CASE THE PUNTY IS A SMALL AMOUNT OF GLASS GATHERED AT THE END OF A PUNTY ROD USED TO TRANSFER OR TURN AROUND YOUR GLASS PIECES. TRANSFERRING YOUR PIECES ALLOWS YOU TO WORK ON THEM FROM DIFFERENT ANGLES. PUNTIES ARE MADE IN ALL SHAPES AND SIZES AND CAN BE MADE ON BLOW PIPES AS WELL. THIS IS THE BASIC AND MOST COMMONLY USED VERSION OF THE PUNTY.
